Over the course of the semester we will use this blog to consider our readings outside of the classroom in a sophisticated, but open forum. In your posts, go beyond a mere plot summary. Give an intelligent and even provocative reading of the short story(s) you are examining that week. Unlike your final term paper, your explications do not have to have a well developed argument, but they should still draw specifically from the text in order to support your ideas. Ask questions and complicate the text even further. Give us something to think about. Ultimately you should only write on an issue that you think is worthwhile. Ponder the story’s perplexities and challenge each others’ ideas as well as your own. Though you do have some specific requirements (one to two posts per week at approximately 250 words each), try not to think of these assignments as tedious weekly tasks. Rather, use this forum to understand further and dare I say enjoy the readings.
